Health Canada funds cutting-edge research to assess the health effects of air pollution. OTTAWA / VANCOUVER - Health Minister Pierre Pettigrew today announced the Government of Canada is allocating $1 million over the next year to fund cutting-edge research on the human health impacts of air pollution in support of the Georgia Basin/Puget Sound International Airshed Strategy, one of three pilot projects under the Canada-United States Border Air Quality Strategy.

OTTAWA - Health Canada and its partners are reminding Canadians to take active steps to protect themselves from the risk of West Nile Virus. "Only four in ten Canadians are taking steps to protect themselves against West Nile virus," said Health Minister Pierre Pettigrew. " It is important that more Canadians take precautions against this preventable disease. Health Canada's primary focus for 2004 will be educating Canadians on how to reduce their risk of being bitten by an infected mosquito. In addition Health Canada will continue the vital work in advancing the science of West Nile virus."
Government of Canada to ensure reasonable access to a legal source of marihuana for medical purposes
[2003] ~ OTTAWA - The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Health, today announced that the Government of Canada has amended the Marihuana Medical Access Regulations (MMAR) to provide for reasonable access to a legal source of marihuana for medical purposes. "The Government of Canada is committed to its program on marihuana for medical purposes," said Minister McLellan. "The amendments announced today will ensure that Canadians who suffer from serious medical conditions for whom conventional therapies have not been successful will have reasonable access to a legal source of marihuana."
